What do frogs eat?
Frogs eat insects, flies, grasshoppers, etc. A compost
heap in your garden will help attract insects.
What do I feed tadpoles in my ponds?
Tadpoles will eat boiled outer lettuce leaves or zuccini.
Be careful not to over-feed the tadpoles as excess food
may badly effect the water quality
Frogs have spawned in my dog's water bowl,
what do I do?
If you have a suitable pond, gently move the spawn to
the pond. If no suitable pond is available, call us and
we will assist with relocation.
What should I do with the cane toads in my garden?
We recommend catching any cane toads in your garden, placing
them in a plastic bag and popping them in the freezer
for a couple of days. This is the most humane disposal
method available at the moment.
How can I stop cane toads from spawning
in my pond?
Elevated ponds are a viable method to discourage cane
toads from spawning in your ponds as cane toads can not
climb well.
If it's not green, it's a cane toad right?
Wrong. There are many species of frogs that are both green
and brown. If you are unsure if it's a cane toad or not,
feel free to contact us and ask.
Frogs have spawned in my pool. How can
I get rid of the spawn?
If you do not have a suitable pond, call us and we will
try to assist.
There are mosquito larvae in my ponds,
what should I do?
Small fish in your ponds will help keep mosquito larvae
under control. The amount of fish will depend on your
pond size. Suitable fish are Pacific Blue Eyes (a native
species) or White Cloud Mountain Minnows (an introduced
species), both available from pet stores. These fish are
suitable because they have small mouths and will not eat
larger tadpoles. Gold fish are not suitable as they will
eat all tadpoles and spawn.
Will pesticide or weed killer hurt the
frogs in my garden?
As frogs eat insects, spraying pesticides will kill the
frog's food source. Any contact with pesticides and weed
killers will harm, if not kill frogs.
